Archiving Policy
1. Purpose and Scope
Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi dan Bisnis is committed to maintaining the long-term availability, integrity, authenticity, and accessibility of all scholarly articles it publishes. This Archiving Policy establishes the principles and procedures for systematically managing and preserving journal content, publication metadata, and publication records to support the continuity of scholarly communication.
Archiving is intended to mitigate the risk of data loss resulting from technical disruptions, system damage, server failure, cyberattacks, disasters, or changes in publishing platforms and management arrangements.
This policy applies to all content published in Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi dan Bisnis, including:
-
Published scholarly articles and their final published versions (Version of Record).
-
Journal volumes, issues, and back issues.
-
Article metadata, including titles, author names, abstracts, keywords, publication dates, and DOIs, where available.
-
Supplementary files accompanying articles that form part of the publication record.
-
Corrections, retraction notices, and other editorial notices relating to the integrity of the scholarly record.
2. Archiving Systems and Procedures
The journal implements digital archiving through its electronic journal management system and available digital preservation mechanisms whose implementation and status can be verified.
2.1. Digital Archives on the Official Journal Website
All published articles are archived on the official website of Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi dan Bisnis. The archive includes article landing pages, full-text files, metadata, and associated issue information.
Digital archives are maintained to support discovery and retrieval by readers, authors, researchers, librarians, and the academic community, in accordance with the journal's access policy.
2.2. External Digital Preservation
The journal supports digital preservation through external scholarly archiving networks or services that meet the relevant technical and institutional requirements.
The journal records and monitors its preservation status through the services it uses, including the Public Knowledge Project Private LOCKSS Network (PKP PLN), subject to the verifiable coverage and status of the archived content.
Participation in a preservation service does not, by itself, guarantee that every issue, article, and file has been successfully archived. The journal therefore monitors preservation status and coverage and takes appropriate follow-up action when content is found to be missing from the archive or affected by technical problems.
Additional services, including the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, or other preservation services, will be identified as active components of the journal's archiving arrangements only when participation and successful implementation have been confirmed.
2.3. Internal Backups
In addition to external preservation, the journal management team conducts periodic data backups in accordance with the technical procedures and infrastructure capabilities of Universitas Tarakanita.
Backups may include:
-
Article files and publication documents.
-
Metadata and the journal management system database.
-
Issue information, system configurations, and supporting data required for service restoration.
Backup copies are stored under controlled conditions, with due consideration for security, access restrictions, and data-loss risks. Backup frequency, storage locations, retention periods, and recovery procedures are established in coordination with the technical administrators in accordance with applicable operational standards.
Internal backups and external digital preservation are complementary mechanisms, but they serve different purposes.
3. Integrity and Authenticity of Archived Content
The journal seeks to preserve the integrity and authenticity of every published article. The final published version is treated as the official publication record.
Any changes required after publication, including corrections, clarifications, or retractions, are handled in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and publication ethics standards. Information regarding changes to an article's status is documented transparently and linked to the relevant article whenever possible.
Articles that have been corrected or retracted are not removed solely to erase their publication history. Correction or retraction notices are provided in accordance with editorial decisions and applicable scholarly publishing practices.
4. Access to Archived Content
Published articles are accessible through the journal's official website in accordance with its applicable open-access policy.
The journal seeks to maintain access to previously published issues and provide sufficient bibliographic information to enable articles to be discovered, cited, and used for academic purposes.
If the official website experiences a temporary disruption, the journal management team will coordinate with technical administrators and relevant parties to restore services and access to affected content.
5. Author Self-Archiving
Authors may deposit and share their published articles through institutional repositories, subject repositories, or legitimately maintained academic websites, subject to applicable copyright provisions, publication licences, and the journal's policies.
Authors are encouraged to provide the complete citation of the published article and, where available, its DOI or a persistent link to the official version hosted on the journal website.
Author self-archiving does not replace the journal's responsibility to maintain its official publication archive.
6. Continuity of Access and Archive Recovery
If the journal website becomes inaccessible for an extended period, experiences a system failure, migrates to another platform, or ceases to publish new issues, the journal management team, in coordination with Universitas Tarakanita, will make reasonable efforts to restore access to available publication archives.
Such efforts may include restoring content from backup copies, transferring archives to a replacement platform, maintaining publication metadata, and coordinating with relevant digital preservation services and repositories.
If the journal ceases operations, archives remaining under the journal's or publisher's control, or preserved by external services, will continue to be managed in accordance with applicable technical requirements, legal obligations, and the terms of the relevant services. Continued access through external services is subject to their archival coverage and applicable service conditions.
7. Management Responsibilities
The Editor-in-Chief and editorial team are responsible for implementing this policy at the editorial level, including ensuring that published articles and issues are maintained as the journal's official publication record.
Technical administrators or units designated by Universitas Tarakanita are responsible for supporting the infrastructure, backups, storage security, and data recovery within their respective areas of authority.
The journal management team periodically evaluates the effectiveness of its archiving arrangements, external preservation status, archive completeness, and the need for system improvements.
8. Policy Review
This policy is reviewed periodically and may be revised in response to changes in publishing systems, digital preservation services, copyright requirements, scholarly publishing standards, or institutional policies.
Any revisions to this policy will be announced on the journal's official website.
