Authorship Policy
1. General Principles of Authorship
Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi dan Bisnis, Universitas Tarakanita, adopts an authorship policy based on intellectual or substantive contributions to scholarly research and article preparation. Authorship must reflect genuine contributions, accountability, and the consent of all individuals listed as authors.
This policy aims to promote transparency, fairness, accountability, and integrity in determining authorship and to prevent inappropriate authorship practices.
2. Authorship Criteria
An individual may be listed as an author if they meet the following criteria:
- Have made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the research, data collection, data analysis or interpretation, or other essential aspects of the study.
- Have participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising its intellectual content.
- Have approved the final version of the manuscript for submission or publication.
- Agree to be accountable for their contributions and to cooperate in ensuring that questions concerning the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the article are appropriately addressed.
All individuals listed as authors must meet these authorship criteria. Contributions limited to funding, administrative support, routine data collection, or the provision of facilities do not automatically confer authorship without additional intellectual or substantive involvement.
3. Corresponding Author
Each manuscript must designate one corresponding author who is responsible for communicating with the editor throughout the submission, review, revision, and publication processes.
The corresponding author is responsible for:
- Ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria and approve the submitted manuscript.
- Providing accurate information regarding authorship and individual contributions.
- Ensuring that all authors are informed of the editorial process and approve relevant substantive changes.
- Responding to editorial communications and assisting in resolving questions or issues concerning authorship and article integrity.
The corresponding author does not automatically hold a higher academic standing or make a greater contribution than the other authors.
4. Author Order and Contributions
The order of authors must be determined by mutual agreement among all authors, taking into account their respective contributions to the research and manuscript preparation.
All authors are responsible for agreeing on the authorship order before submission. Where necessary, the journal may request an author contribution statement to clarify each individual's role in the research and writing process.
The journal does not unilaterally determine author order, as this remains the responsibility of the authors.
5. Changes in Authorship
Any request to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must include a clear justification and written consent from all affected authors, including any individual to be added or removed.
The journal reserves the right to suspend the editorial or publication process while the requested authorship change is being reviewed. Changes will be processed only after the reasons and required approvals have been verified by the editor.
Changes in authorship requested after publication will be handled through appropriate editorial procedures to preserve transparency and the integrity of the publication record.
6. Prevention of Unethical Authorship Practices
Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi dan Bisnis does not permit authorship practices that misrepresent actual contributions, including:
- Guest or honorary authorship: Listing an individual as an author without contributions that meet the authorship criteria.
- Gift authorship: Granting authorship as a gesture of appreciation, reciprocity, or personal benefit without an appropriate substantive contribution.
- Ghost authorship: Omitting an individual who has made an intellectual or substantive contribution that qualifies for authorship.
- Authorship misrepresentation: Listing an individual's name without consent or changing the author list without the consent of the relevant parties.
Allegations of authorship misconduct will be handled objectively and in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
7. Author Contribution Statements
The journal may request a statement describing each author's contributions where necessary. Such statements must accurately reflect actual contributions, including conceptualization, methodology, data collection, analysis, drafting, revision, or research supervision.
All authors are responsible for ensuring that the contribution information provided is accurate and accountable.
8. Use of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) systems and automated tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the content, integrity, and validity of a scholarly article.
Where disclosure of AI or automated tool use is required under the journal's policies, authors must transparently describe such use in accordance with the applicable requirements. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the entire manuscript, including content produced with the assistance of such technologies.
9. Resolution of Authorship Disputes
Disputes concerning contributions, author order, or authorship eligibility should initially be resolved by the authors through communication and mutual agreement.
If a dispute cannot be resolved, the journal may request clarification and supporting documentation from the parties concerned and suspend the editorial or publication process until an adequate resolution is reached. The journal may consult the relevant institution where necessary.
The journal does not act as an institutional investigative body but reserves the right to take appropriate editorial action to protect publication integrity.
10. Author Responsibilities
By submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi dan Bisnis, all authors confirm that the authorship information provided is accurate, all necessary approvals have been obtained, and every individual listed as an author meets the criteria established in this policy.
This policy is intended to promote responsible, transparent, and ethically sound authorship practices in scholarly publishing.
