Publication Ethics
AUTHOR ETHICS
Reporting Standards
Authors must present research results and manuscripts honestly, accurately, and clearly, without data fabrication, falsification, or manipulation. All sources of citations must be properly acknowledged and written in accordance with the journal’s author guidelines.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript is original, derived from their own ideas and writing, and does not plagiarize partially or entirely from other works. All relevant publications, whether authored by others or by the authors themselves, must be properly cited in the manuscript.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Submission
Authors must guarantee that the manuscript submitted to Jurnal Karya Untuk Masyarakat (JKUM) has not been previously published in any other journal or publication (such as book chapters, newspapers, or other media). If the manuscript has been submitted to another journal but not yet published, authors must provide an official withdrawal letter from the previous journal.
Errors in Published Works
If authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their manuscript (e.g., citation errors, data presentation errors), they must promptly notify the editorial board before publication. Errors discovered after publication are the full responsibility of the authors.
Source Citation
Authors must ensure that all data, quotations, and references used in the manuscript are accurately cited and clearly identified. If permission is required to use certain data or materials, authors are responsible for obtaining such permission prior to submission.
Conflict of Interest
Authors may have potential conflicts of interest related to funding, employment, institutional affiliation, or other relationships that could influence the research outcomes. Such conflicts must be disclosed honestly in the manuscript.
EDITOR ETHICS
Objectivity
Editors evaluate manuscripts solely based on their academic merit, scientific quality, and relevance to the journal’s focus and scope.
Transparency
The editorial decision-making process is conducted transparently. Decisions to accept, reject, or request revisions must be accompanied by clear and justifiable reasons. Editors must ensure that authors receive timely and clear information regarding the status and outcome of their submissions.
Publication Information and Review Process
Editors must provide accessible author guidelines and clear instructions regarding the peer-review process. Guidelines for reviewers must also be made available.
Fair Play
Editors evaluate manuscripts without discrimination based on gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, political affiliation, or institutional background. If selection is necessary due to limited publication space, decisions must be made objectively based on manuscript quality.
Unpublished Manuscripts
Editors must inform authors if their manuscripts cannot be published. Unpublished manuscripts must not be used by editors for any purpose without the authors’ explicit permission.
Confidentiality
JKUM applies a double-blind peer review process. Editors must protect the confidentiality of authors, reviewers, and manuscript content throughout the review and publication process.
REVIEWER ETHICS
Transparency
Reviewers must conduct the review process transparently and provide clear reasons for accepting, rejecting, or requesting revisions. If revisions are required, reviewers must specify the sections that need improvement to guide authors effectively.
Objectivity
Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts objectively and professionally based solely on academic and scientific considerations, without discrimination of any kind.
Originality and Plagiarism
Reviewers must ensure that manuscripts are free from plagiarism. If any indication of plagiarism is detected, reviewers must inform the editor for further investigation.
Clarity of References
Reviewers must assess whether references are properly cited and comply with academic standards. Any citation errors should be reported to the editor.
Conflict of Interest
Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest (e.g., personal relationships, collaborative research, institutional affiliation with authors) and decline the review if necessary.
Timeliness
Reviewers must complete the review process within the agreed timeframe, no later than two (2) weeks. If additional time is required or the reviewer is unable to complete the review, the reviewer must inform the editor promptly.
