Strategi Penguatan Manajemen Ekonomi Masyarakat Baduy Luar Berbasis Kearifan Lokal di Era Digital

Abstract

The Baduy Luar indigenous community is known for maintaining traditional values in its social and economic life. In practice, the Baduy Luar community also demonstrates the ability to adapt to modern economic developments, particularly through the use of simple technology and modern financial practices such as saving in formal banking institutions. This phenomenon reflects the emergence of economic literacy and digital literacy that develop contextually outside formal education pathways. This Community Service Program (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat/PKM) aims to map the forms of economic literacy practiced by the Baduy Luar community in their daily economic activities, to identify the utilization of technology in economic practices, and to describe modern financial practices carried out without abandoning customary values and norms.The method employed is a qualitative approach with a participatory and contextual design, utilizing participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, limited focus group discussions, and documentation studies. The subjects of this activity include local economic actors and community leaders of the Baduy Luar community. The results indicate that the economic literacy of the Baduy Luar community develops through non-formal and informal learning processes derived from life experiences, social interactions, and the intergenerational transmission of cultural values. The use of technology, such as mobile phones, is conducted selectively and functionally for economic communication purposes, including trade and access to information, without altering their simple lifestyle. Furthermore, some community members have implemented modern financial practices by saving money in banking institutions as a strategy for household financial management and long-term economic security. These practices are understood as forms of adaptation to modern economic needs that remain aligned with customary principles. This program demonstrates that tradition and modernity are not necessarily in opposition but can coexist functionally within the economic life of indigenous communities. A participatory and culturally sensitive community service approach has proven effective in exploring the potential of economic literacy within the Baduy Luar community and in creating a reflective dialogue space between academics and the community.These findings are expected to serve as a basis for developing future community service programs grounded in local wisdom and sustainability, as well as to contribute academically to studies on economic literacy among indigenous communities in Indonesia.
