In rural societies, most women are marginalised as they generally do not have access to formal education to enable them to be employed. The tendency is getting married to escape poverty and to seek life support as they become somebody’s wife. This unfortunate situation lends further ‘burden’ to women as they have to take care of children and house chores. They become dependent to men (i.e. husbands) and powerless in most aspects of life. This paper intends to report the activity to empower women (housewives) in Bitung Sari Village, Bogor, West Java by giving them training of crafting skills. These skills would allow them to have an income without leaving their homes.
