Abstract

Idntimes.com has a community which known as ‘Community Writer’ in 2016. The community have the opportunity to write some articles in the idntimes.com. The result, in 2017 Nielsen Indonesia released that idntimes.com is ranked 3 as the online media with the highest number of visitors in Indonesia, which is 2.8 million per day. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. In examining the case, this study uses Vincent Mosco's political economy theory. The results of this study stated that there was a commodification carried out by idntimes.com in the form of utilizing Community Writer. Idntimes.com benefits from increased portal traffic without having to employ journalists and does not need to pay according to the applicable UMR rules.
